Aluminum foil coated fabric protecting equipment from heat and radiant energy

Aluminum foil coated fabric is a great solution for protecting equipment from heat and radiant energy. These fabrics are constructed from a high-temperature fiberglass base and are then covered with a layer of aluminum foil. This combination of reflective materials is extremely effective, preventing up to 95% of the radiant heat from reaching your equipment.

Aluminum foil is commonly used for wrapping foods, covering baking sheets, and cleaning pans and grill grates. It is a thin metal made from the chemical elements aluminum and phosphate. It is one of the most abundant metals in nature and is bound to phosphate and sulfate in the rocks and soil.

The process of making aluminium foil begins with the manufacture of aluminum stock. During the manufacturing process, aluminium is rolled on a rolling mill. Work rolls are polished and finely ground to produce a flat, bright foil. These are paired with heavier backup rolls that exert high pressure on the work rolls, ensuring a uniform gauge throughout the sheet. The final step is annealing, which removes any lubricating oils from the aluminium surface. The process also controls the growth of oxide crystals and prevents sticking between the layers of aluminum foil.

Moreover, aluminum foil has the ability to create a complete barrier between moisture and oxygen. This is different from plastics used in flexible packaging, which allow passage of gases due to partial pressure differences. Because plastics are low-density, space within the molecules of the polymer is relatively small, and thus they allow gas to flow through. The chemical and electrostatic forces are responsible for determining which gases dissolve in the polymer.
